About US and SWE Values

About Us

Our section was chartered on March 8, 2003 as the Western Michigan Professional Section, renamed the Grand Rapids Professional Section in January 2019.  We have sponsored a variety of activities over the years, from Girl Scout Badges, tours, professional development and social events.  For two years we ran an engineering program through the Grand Rapids Public Museum in the summer and have participated in past e-week events there.  We helped charter three college sections – Grand Valley State University SWE, Hope College SWE, and Calvin University SWE.  We continue to work with Ferris State University on the possibility of another collegiate SWE section being chartered. We want to grow our section in order to help our members grow in areas of their choosing.  We are a small (less than 100 members) group working to bring about these programs and will continue to do so through virtual and in-person events and meetings.
