STEMinists: Michigan Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Saturday, November 2, 2013
Presentation: 10:00 a.m.
Museum Tour: 10:45-12:00
Since the passage of Title IX, women remain disproportionately underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career fields. The museum exhibit STEMinists aims to combat barriers remaining to women’s equal participation in STEM fields by introducing girls to what it means to work in a STEM field, successful Michigan women role models working in STEM, and steps to pursue their interest in STEM fields. Increasing the number of women in STEM fields is good for everyone—it has the potential to help address the wage gap between men and women and increase the competitiveness of the Unites States in the global economy.
